There are 8 million street kids in Brazil. 35 % of these children will never reach the age of 18 years, because of diseases, abuse, violence and hired killers.

The House of Hope is located in the city Recife in north east Brasil. The purpose of the house is to give street boys a chance to leave life on the streets and begin a new life with hope and future.

Along side working in the house the staff go on the streets to hand out food and juice. They are cleaning wounds and cutting the hair of the boys - and in that way they are also building relationships.

The project House of Hope began in 1999 in a rented house - after a year 4 boys had gone from life on the streets to a brand new life. All 4 boys learned how to read and write within 6 months and afterwards attended the local school. Now they live with foster parents or have returned to their own family.

Since then a new House of Hope has been build - a two floor 600m2 house with room for 25 boys and 8 - 10 staff.

 

Adopt a streetchild - 750 DKK/mdr

It seems unfair that a rich country like Brazil is not taking care of its own citizens. It also seems unfair that the wealth of the country is shared so unevenly. The problem is just that it does not help the boys on the streets to think like that - that will not make their dreams a reality.

But you can be part of making the difference - are they going to stay on the streets, or should they be given the chance to see some of their dreams come true? Some kids need more help than others, and therefore the amount needed to sponsor a child varies. That is why we cannot point out one specific child that all your gifts go to - in some cases your gift will be enough for several boys.

Four times a year you will receive reports from the House of Hope, where your gift will be part of changing lives for the street children. In this way you can make sure that your gifts are spent in a proper way. A gift from donors like you - big or small gifts - is what makes it possible to help.

For 750 DKK per month you can change the future of a boy. Your gift will help pay for food, housing, private health insurance, dental care, clothes, school books etc, KKI trips and summer camp.
